Our fireplaces, whether we use them for warmth or luxury, we certainly do enjoy them. However, for those of us who also love our carpet, there is perhaps one aspect of the fireplace we find particularly frustrating, fireplace soot. Today at Cleanpro in Tacoma we would like to share a few tips with you on how you should get soot out of your carpet. Though it is not one of the the most difficult things to clean from the carpet it can be rather the challenge. Remember that if you’re not pleased with the results after the first treatment, you can always try again.

Firstly, if there are large pieces of soot that you can see in your carpet, be sure to vacuum those up. If they seem to be stuck, you can use a dull knife to work them out of the fibers and then vacuum them.

Next, using baking soda or cornstarch, sprinkle the affected area of carpet to help absorb the soot. You should leave it on the carpet for at least an hour. The longer you wait, the better it is.

Use your vacuum again to clean up the baking soda or cornstarch and soot.

Apply dry-cleaning fluid, in small amounts, to a rag and blot the area of the stain.

Use a fresh cloth to begin drying the stain, again by blotting-do not rub.

Once the stain has gone, allow the area time to naturally dry

Though these steps are few and simple, you’ll find that they are rather effective in removing soot from carpet. If you feel the stained area is too big for you, or if you have other carpet stains you’d like to see removed, remember us here at Cleanpro for carpet cleaning in Tacoma.
